Repeat purchase - 5/4/24

Roshan, Sri Lankan, bid my $1 fish till $32. Today he has decided to buy my red halfmoon which I earlier put up for sale at $78 but no taker . After he asked for further discount, I decided to lower my asking price to $55. He and his Vietnam girl friend picked up the Betta same day:)

Betta $1 Sale - 8/3/24

I put up four Betta for sale on Trademe at $1 each for bidding. The bidding will be closed on about 7.50pm 8/3/24. By 7.00pm, the Betta only bid at $1,$1,$2.50 and $4.00. To my surprise, the Betta bids reached $7.00, $10.50, $16.50 and $26.00. Hooray! The two hmpk betta sold to Wei Jie Liu, red-black hm sold to Kathy Varga and black fancy hm sold to Arsene.

Betta halfmoon - 21/2/24

This beautiful Betta was sold to a Kiwi lady, Danielle Strugnell, at $30. The buyer was a tall and big size lady probably around 25 years old. She told me that she could only collect this betta on her pay day. She picked it up at around 12 noon.

Betta hm - 11/2/33

I put up two betta hm for sale on Thursday 8/2/23. By Sunday night 11/2/23, one of the betta ($40) was sold and the buyer(Kiwi), Gerard, wanted to collect the betta at 8pm same day. He ended up bought my old Nemo halfmoon as well for $20. I really felt motivated to breed more betta after a few sale of b

etta in this month.

Betta hm - 7/2/23

The buyer, Danielle, who bought two Betta for her daughter earlier called me today for a visit. This time, she brought along her son and daughter. After struggling the decision whether to buy the brown hm or grizzle hm for a little while, her son finally decided to buy the grizzle hm. I sold this Betta to him at $30.

Betta hm - 4/2/24

I decided not to breed more halfmoon Betta, thus putting up this Betta for sale on Trademe at $38.00 with a "buy now" at $40.00. To my surprise, a Combodian by name of Viseth bought the Betta on Sunday night 8.30pm and immediately wanted to collect the Betta the same night(9.40pm). According to him, he was a breeder sometime ago. Now, he wants to restart the breeding. He also bought one female Betta (white marble)at $25.00. What a night!

Surprise sale 23-1-24

After few days putting three betta on sale at Trademe, a person requested to view the betta. I agreed to the viewing. The buyer, Danielle (Kiwi), turned up the next day and bought two of my older betta for her daughter as birthday present. I sold the betta at $20 each. Although I sold them cheap but I actually delighted to sell them while they have already reached nine months old.

Breeding and Care of fry

It is relatively simple to breed betta. First, you need to choose a compatible pair; both male and female should be about equal size, matching colour and same strain. The female should have a stomach full of roe in order to get a good spawn. I prefer to use a container with size 1.5' length x 1' width x 1' height for breeding. The water level is about 3 inches and half piece of ketapat leave will be placed floating for the male to build nest. I would put the male in the container first, then put female in a 4"x4"x4" glass before placing it in the center of the container. This is to condition them for spawn, three days should be good enough. I will feed them with frozen worms to boost up their energy levels and sexual desire. After i released the female, courtship instantly begin. Most of the time, the male will force for a spawn by biting the female. The female usually give in after two days and lay eggs.It is advisable to add a few drops of anti-fungus liquid to protect the eggs. I would remove the female after notice its stomach is flatten. The male will continue to take care of the eggs for the next few days. The fry will normally hatch in two days. Once hatched, the male has to be removed to avoid fry being eaten by him. I would feed the fry with microworms or brine shrimps for first week, followed by frozen daphnia for the next one month. Subsequently, frozen red worms or pellets will be fed to them. Water can only be partially changed after one month.
#1)Do not put aquarium plant in breeding tank as there may have velvet or insects that would kill the fry.2) Brine shrimp is a preferred food for fry.

History

Prior to 1800s, people of Siam (Thailand) started to collecting bettas from paddy fields and rivers. They reared it as a hobby and sometime watched betta fighting as entertainment. King of Siam started licensing the collection of these fighting fish in 1840. He gave some bettas to his good friend, Dr. Theodor Cantor, a medical scientist from Bangor. Dr Cantor named betta as Macropondus Pugnax. In 1909, Mr. Tate Regan renamed it as Betta Splenders. It was not until 1927 that the first brightly colour, long finned betta arrived in the United States.Many variants of betta have been developed by hobbists through out the world. But, one particular person i wish to mention is uncle Sala from Thailand, he developed giant, halfmoon, crown tail and many other strains.
